Podiatry careers
Podiatry is the profession that deals with conditions affecting the human foot.
Podiatrists are educated to diagnose and treat a wide range of foot pathologies. The scope of podiatry practice ranges from the treatment of minor problems, to treatment of ingrown toenails using local anaesthetic and to the treatment of complex structural and functional abnormalities of the lower leg.
Podiatrists work in a variety of locations including community health centres, private practice, hospitals, sports medicine clinics and nursing homes.
To practise as a podiatrist in New South Wales, you need to be registered with the NSW Podiatrists Registration Board. To be eligible for registration you must hold a qualification in podiatry recognised by the Registration Board. Mutual recognition provides for podiatrists from other states and New Zealand to practise in New South Wales.

The University of Western Sydney Campbelltown Campus has a purpose built state-of-the-art teaching facility, with on campus clinic. UWS is now offering podiatric medicine as a combined Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Podiatric Medicine degree, which will give you an edge in the eyes of clients and potential employers. The first three years of the highly flexible program result in a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) qualification. You will study core common subjects with other BHSc students and allied health students.
The Charles Sturt University Albury Campus provides first ever podiatry degree available through a non-metropolitan university in Australia.
The University of Newcastle's podiatry program is run over three years to shorten your time to graduation. The pace will be rapid and the content interesting and exciting as you develop the skills and knowledge to practise podiatry.

Charles Sturt University
The Charles Sturt University Albury-Wodonga Campus provides first ever podiatry degree available through a non-metropolitan university in Australia. Graduates of CSU's Bachelor of Podiatry find employment in the assessment, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disorders of the feet and lower limbs. To provide students with direct hands-on clinical experience, and to ensure that you are experienced at using the equipment and techniques found in the workplace ,the facilities that our students have access to include:
• state-of-the-art anatomy and physiology laboratories
• first class clinical teaching laboratories
• small group sizes
• a 'real life' on campus podiatry clinic where you will treat your first patients and obtain over 600 hours of clinical training. This clinic has over 3,000 patients currently registered and provides the basis of an excellent clinical education with hands-on training.
